A Grassroots Political Organization Model for PTI’s Proposed September 2026 Gathering From Union Council Representation to National Political Participation Pakistan’s political parties increasingly rely on large public gatherings to demonstrate political support. For any such gathering, however, political strength should not be measured only by the size of a crowd in one city. A more meaningful measure is the depth of political organization at the Union Council, tehsil, district, provincial and national levels. If PTI proceeds with a proposed September 2026 political gathering, a structured and peaceful organizational model could help demonstrate the breadth of its political support while keeping participation within the Constitution and applicable law. 1. Grassroots Representation The Union Council can serve as the basic organizational unit. A simple internal planning benchmark could be used to estimate participation. For example, 40 participants per participating UC would provide a m...

The Question of Equal Treatment: Cricket, Politics and the Rule of Law Introduction The controversy surrounding an interview with Imran Khan’s sons during the England–Pakistan Test at Lord’s has raised questions extending beyond cricket. According to media reports, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) objected to a Sky Sports interview in which Sulaiman and Kasim Khan discussed their father’s health and imprisonment. Reports also suggested that the board considered an unprecedented response involving Pakistan’s participation in the match. The team eventually returned to the field, and head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed reportedly said that he and the players were unaware of the alleged threat. The incident raises an important question: Should international cricket become entangled in political disputes, or should institutions respond through transparency and established procedures? The PCB can raise legitimate concerns about a broadcaster’s editorial decisions. However, any suggestion of disru...

Ayub Khan and Asim Munir: Two Field Marshals, Two Eras A Comparative Study of Power, Politics, Economy and Historical Legacy Pakistan's military and political history presents an important comparison between Field Marshal Muhammad Ayub Khan and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. Although they belong to different generations, their leadership raises a common question: can concentrated power deliver lasting stability without political inclusion, economic fairness and strong constitutional institutions? Ayub Khan's political era ended in 1969, allowing historians to assess its long-term consequences. Asim Munir's era is still unfolding, so any judgment about his ultimate legacy must remain provisional. The purpose of this comparison is not to promote or condemn either individual. It is to examine their political environments, economic challenges, international relationships and the lessons Pakistan can draw from its history. 1. Two Different National Environments Ayub Khan...

Is Pakistan Approaching Another Historical Turning Point?   Article 245, Institutional Relations, Political Realignment and the Gen-Z Factor Introduction   Pakistan faces several interconnected political and institutional challenges. The reported deployment of Army personnel in Rawalpindi under Article 245, continuing political tensions surrounding Imran Khan, debate over new provinces, economic difficulties and the growing political awareness of young citizens have raised important questions about the country's future. These developments do not, individually or collectively, prove that martial law or another military takeover is imminent. However, they highlight the importance of constitutional stability, public trust and responsible decision-making. The central question is not whether Pakistan's history will repeat itself, but whether its institutions can learn from previous crises and prevent political disagreements from becoming constitutional confrontations. 1. Article 24...

Imran Khan’s Hospital Transfer Order: A Constitutional Test of Judicial and Executive Authority The Supreme Court’s reported 48-hour deadline, the government’s review petition, possible contempt proceedings, and the importance of the rule of law Introduction The reported Supreme Court order concerning former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s medical treatment has raised important questions about constitutional authority, prisoners’ rights, and the relationship between the judiciary and the executive. According to reports cited in the public discussion, on 18 August 2026, a three-member Supreme Court bench directed that Khan be transferred from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad within 48 hours for medical assessment and treatment. The reported directions also addressed the medical board and the participation of his personal physician. The federal government subsequently challenged the order through a review petition. Reports further indicated that the Supreme Cour...
